Summer At Sandy Spring

A Summer of Learning

Growth & Discovery Awaits!

Counselor In Training (CIT)

The CIT (Counselor in Training) Program is designed for young leaders entering 9th or 10th grades, who are interested in becoming summer camp counselors or professionals in the education field. CITs receive leadership and childcare training and learn what it’s like to work with a team. We have put together opportunities for our CITs to gain valuable training that will serve them well both in the camp setting and in other employment environments. During this 2 week program, all CITs will earn certifications in CPR and First Aid. CITs will spend time in individual programs assisting head counselors and will return to their peers to discuss what they have learned. They will also receive instruction in different skill areas. CITs will learn about child development, how to write a resume, and will participate in a mock interview. They will also learn water safety and team-building facilitation skills. After completing the CIT program, those interested in continuing to assist at camp can fill out an application and interview for the opportunity to volunteer during the subsequent weeks at camp.

*It is possible to obtain approximately 20-25 community service hours per week towards high school graduation through this program. CITs must check with the individual schools before camp begins. Summer at Sandy Spring is SSL approved by Montgomery County Public Schools.
