Volunteer Friends

14 Years Old and Up

Once your camper has completed all of our S@SS programs—what we like to call a true “lifer”—it’s time for them to give back as a volunteer! Volunteers are assigned to a cabin each week, working alongside some of our seasoned and energetic staff to gain hands-on experience and leadership skills.

Volunteers may sign up for as many weeks as they’d like, with a minimum commitment of two weeks. Each week of volunteering earns 40 Student Service Learning (SSL) hours.

The volunteer experience begins with an online application, followed by an interview with a S@SS administrator and completion of fingerprinting/background checks. This process is intentionally designed for the volunteer to take the lead—from start to finish—so they can begin developing independence and responsibility even before day one.

*Summer at Sandy Spring is SSL approved by Montgomery County Public Schools, but please check with your child’s individual school before camp begins to ensure SSL hours will be accepted.
