Counselors in Training (CIT)

Does your camper dream of being a camp counselor one day? If so, then this is the program for them! The Counselor-in-Training Program at Summer at Sandy Spring is the perfect bridge between camper and counselor — where leadership, teamwork, and fun all come together! Designed for our rising 8th and 9th graders, this program gives teens hands-on experience working alongside counselors, supporting younger campers, and learning what it takes to be a positive and effective leader.

Each day, CITs will participate in a mix of leadership workshops, team challenges, and division rotations, where they’ll shadow staff, assist with activities, and develop communication and problem-solving skills. Throughout the week, they’ll also enjoy daily pond time for swimming and a weekly trip to a local pool to relax and unwind with their peers. They will also enjoy some time at one of North America’s largest zip line and aerial tree courses, The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring.

In addition to leadership training, CITs will engage in student service learning hours, career skill sessions, and opportunities to plan and lead games or activities of their own.

Whether your teen is looking to gain confidence, earn volunteer experience, or take their first step toward becoming a counselor, the CIT Program offers the perfect blend of responsibility, learning, and classic camp fun!

*Summer at Sandy Spring is SSL approved by Montgomery County Public Schools, but please check with your child’s individual school before camp begins to ensure SSL hours will be accepted.

Little Friends, Big Experiences

It’s never too early to start being a camper with our Little Friends Camp. Our program is designed to provide 3 and 4-year olds with a full day of activities that emphasize friendship, fun, learning, and discoveries. The program offers a safe and age-appropriate environment that nurtures curiosity and builds self-confidence among young campers. They will be given two opportunities a day to see some of the fun workshops our older campers are doing while still in a safe and friendly environment.
